Branches of the Alberta Retired Teachers' Association

The activities of our branches are the backbone of our organization. It is from our branches that we get the many volunteers who serve as delegates to our democratic policy-making annual General Assembly. These volunteers serve on the important standing and ad hoc committees of our Association that negotiate our health benefits insurance and lobby government to re-examine our pensions. They also serve on committees that provide scholarships to relatives of members who are attending post secondary institutions and on ad hoc committees that support the ATA in its attempt to improve the quality of education at all levels across the province. Members from our branches serve on committees to improve the conditions of children and poverty and to support concerns of all senior citizens. In addition, the branches contribute articles to our News and Views newsletter keeping our members informed.

Our branches also carry on social activities in their local areas, which enable retired teachers to remain in contact with their colleagues, enjoy dinners, speakers and other fun activities.

While it is not necessary to belong to a branch to remain a member of the Alberta Retired Teachers' Association (ARTA) we encourage our members to do so for their own enjoyment and for the strengthening of our group. If there is no branch within easy access of your residence there is also the opportunity to form a new branch with a minimum of 25 members.
